The Exynos 980 is Samsung's first 5G-integrated chipset

Samsung announced today the Exynos 980, the company's first mobile chipset with an integrated 5G modem. According to Samsung, integrating the modem into the chipset rather than relying on separate components results in reduced power consumption, a major weakness in current 5G setups.

The Exynos line of processors powers many of Samsung's international devices (rather than Qualcomm's Snapdragon chips, which Samsung uses in its US releases). Samsung says the 980 is capable of download speeds of up to 2.55 gigabits per second on a 5G connection.
